So apparently I do have internet this weekend.

Did you know that sometimes advertising companies use songs written years ago to sell their product, and sometimes don't actually write the music that plays in commercials?

Well, of course you do.

So I thought that the music in the commercial above was just some stupid new-age "written for a car commercial to indicate the car gives you peace and bliss" 30 second bit.

But as it turns out, it's a Simon & Garfunkel song! And it's actually a pretty decent one, too!

Sara asked me to put some Simon & Garfunkel on this huge playlist I'm creating for her. Which is OK, except that I'm not really familiar with their stuff outside the hit singles, and I've only listened to their albums a couple times whenever I found the vinyl copy. So I got out Bridge Over Troubled Water and played it... and this song came up.

And it's the first time I've ever played a song, liked it, then realized it was from a commercial... and then realized that I hated it in the commercial form. It's pretty simple to explain, though... the backing vocals are nice, but in the context of selling something--it kind of pisses me off. But the ambiguous upbeat-yet-lonely verses balance the ethereal background vocals pretty nicely in the actual song.

Moral of the story is this: f*** car commercials.
